In my city there is no confinement law for cats so when we capture a cat it is almost always because something bad has happened to the cat. Typically, Animal Control Officers see a lot of diseased and injured cats. Occasionally we will see an abandoned kitten or something similar, which is much easier to deal with.
@animalwelfareguy Another officer brought these babies in so I don’t have context for them except that they were extremely sick. Usually when it gets to the point with the one that had the really bad eye, it’s odds are not good. It was specifically stated that it was immobile which really threw me off when I went to catch it. It did unfortunately get away from me under a mobile home and though I did get permission to crawl around under the house for it, it had pushed back into a section that was lowered tighter than I can fit. @animalwelfareguy Call came in for an injured cat. The accident wasn’t witnessed but it’s believed she was hit by a car. I cannot stress enough how sweet this poor baby was the entire time she was with me. Unfortunately when I got her to the emergency vet her condition was worse than I thought and she had to be put down. #animalwelfare #animalrescue #cat

@animalwelfareguy Call came in for a cat that was caught in a roll-up garage door at a shop. I’m not including any video of the cat being removed from the door for graphic reasons but it had no mobility in its rear legs, likely from a spinal injury. The cat was ultimately put down at the shelter but at least it’s not suffering anymore. #animalwelfare #animalrescue #cat

@animalwelfareguy This is our community cat program. Stray cats get trapped and taken to a shelter/facility where they get up to date on all shots and fixed. After they recover from surgery they are released back where they get picked up. This program is really beneficial to the city because releasing stray cats back to their normal territory keeps other cats from moving in. By keeping the population steady with fixed cats it reduces the exponential reproduction people see commonly in stray cat populations. #animalwelfare #animalrescue #cat

@animalwelfareguy This was a rough one. Call came in for some severely ill kittens. When I got on scene it appeared to be 3 deceased kittens in the cold wet grass and when I picked up the third one it started screaming. It was ice cold and judging from the umbilical cord that was still attached it couldn’t have been more than a couple days old. I did what I could to keep it warm while en route to the shelter but it unfortunately had to be euthanized. While it’s not unheard of for some cats to abandon their kittens this was most likely a case of someone dumping their unwanted kittens based on where they were found. #animalwelfare #animarescue #cat

@animalwelfareguy There wasn’t even a call for this guy, just right place at the right time. While on another call a neighbor came over and told me she had been taking care of an injured stray cat. He didn’t have a chip but had a pretty nasty infection on both sides of his face. He will get proper medical treatment now and undoubtedly find a loving home! injured cat animalwelfare animalrescue
