This is Nancy the pig. Nancy got loose and decided to go on a stroll. Nancy’s owners didn’t have a trailer and the pig had been loose for almost 4 hours by the time we got there and loaded her up. Nancy’s owners will get an expensive citation for failing to confine livestock which resulted in tying up several officers for a long time. Don’t be like Nancy’s owners. Also apparently Nancy will sit on command for food- I will 100% upload that video if I get it! #animalwelfare #animalcontrol #animalrescue #pig

This was a very dark call. A call came in for a horse that had been hit by a car around 2:30 am. It was a fairly low visibility area (rolling hills and high speed limit and there were witnesses attesting to the horse running out into the road at the last second. Here’s where the story gets dark…..when I arrived on scene the PD unit who dealt with the crash showed me where the horse was- well out of our city’s jurisdiction, putting the horse in county territory. We cannot legally operate outside of our jurisdiction so I called dispatch and asked if they could get county out to euthanize the horse as it was suffering. County PD told us that they would not respond to the horse because our city’s PD unit handled the crash and therefore we should be the ones handling the horse as well. Even after explaining that animal welfare is not attached to PD and that the crash and the horse needing help were two separate issues for different departments county PD still refused. I got my supervisor to call the county PD supervisor directly and he flat out refused to send an officer out, even when we offered to remove the horse and all they needed to do was come out and put it down as it was in their jurisdiction. The horse suffered like this for almost 6 hours before we were able to get our vet techs on scene to euthanize despite the legal issues of not being in jurisdiction. I know it was late and cold but when you sign up to be a first responder and public servant you are expected to help when someone needs you. If you’re just there for a paycheck go work somewhere else where living things don’t rely on you. #animalwelfare #animalrescue #horse

Call came in late at night for an owner going to jail that had this sweet baby in the car with them. Hopefully they can make bail and come up with the money to reclaim the little guy soon. If not there are a lot of people here in animal welfare that are more than willing to adopt him! #animalwelfare #pig #cute

PSA: this is not what a healthy horse looks like. With the backup of local law enforcement we were able to save several horses before it was too late. Sadly we were too late for one- after starving the owner had used some heavy equipment to dig out a large hole and bury the evidence. Too bad for the owner though- we brought shovels and now have a ton of evidence against them for animal cruelty. #animalwelfare #animalrescue #horsesoftiktok

Call came in for a sick baby deer. It had so many ticks latched onto its eyes they had swollen up and this poor baby was completely blind. The infection had spread significantly and had leaking sores all over its body. I pulled as many ticks off as I could and waited, calming it down until the wildlife rescue was able to meet and take it from there. #animalwelfare #animalrescue #deer

Call came in for a baby bird that someone found by it’s egg. The calling party wasn’t able to find any nest nearby. The calling party was able to carefully contain it and hold it for us. Hopefully it recovers at the wildlife rescue we partner with. #animalwelfare #animalrescue #bird

Call came in for neglect/cruelty of some bison. While they definitely looked skinnier than most people would expect them to be, they have access to plenty of food, water and shelter. These guys are just trying to beat the heat

This is a cock-fighting game farm. The blue barrels are a tell-tale sign and an industry favorite for housing roosters. If you ever see something like this, please call your local animal welfare department to report the possible animal cruelty. Call came in for a loose goat in the middle of the city. He definitely didn’t want to be caught but once he was, he was the sweetest kid I’ve ever seen!
